Need Help finding Proper Heads For 305
I have a question regarding proper heads for a 305 HO 10:1 Chevy. The heads I've been using are #3986388 which are for a 307, 1968-1971 and 350, 1972-1976. In addition to having small valves, I also don't think the the CC's are correct. I think the proper head for this engine is #140144416 which has larger valves and 58 CC's. The shops that I've talked to said not to use this head because it's a light casting. Is this a problem? Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm not related to Bill Gates. so I would like to find used heads and rebuild themLast edited by c.penny; 03-23-2005 at 01:18 PM.

It may be easier to buy a set of rebuilt heads from your local auto parts store. As for your 305, 350 heads will actually lower your compression. You may want to consider shaving the heads, as this will bump compression back up.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

I think by time that I mill the heads and intake, open up the valves I will have too much money into these heads. If I bought rebuilt from a parts store, I would still have to put new springs in for the cam and then I would still have the question about light casting heads. I guess my question is, is there a head out there that would work on a 305 that is heavy casting and a 1.84 valve. Has anyone ever had problems with "light casting" heads?Last edited by c.penny; 03-25-2005 at 04:16 PM.
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
