I did'nt know this! But it makes sence, RIGHT!!!
Wow! What a tip!!! For checking engine strokes.
Thing is, the motor could have been changed in any vehicle. it's virtually impossible to tell the difference between a 351m and a 400 by looking at them.
Get yourself a small diameter wooden dowel. Pull one spark plug, and push the dowel into the hole until it contacts the top of the piston, Now rotate the engine, using the dowel to see when the piston is at top dead center.
Make a mark on the dowel at the point where it enters the spark plug hole.
Now, rotate the engine until the piston is at the bottom of it's travel, and mark the dowel again.
Measure the distance between the marks. If it's 4 inches, it's a 400.
Wow! Cool huh!!!

I would think by now they "wood" have a little robotic camera that could ride up N' down on the piston dome and have a GPS to track the distance traveled.
BTW: When the piston reached the top ................ would the robotic camera get squished or quenched????"PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Perhaps... but you could get the compression ratio from how much it's squished.
