    Question 460 ford motor

i have a 92 ford mustang gt with a 5.0 motor in it . my father has an old 2 ton winch truck with a 460 motor in it i was wondering if it would be possible to pull the motor . and rebuild the motor and be able to use it in the mustang . also would it be worth it.

If it's worth it depends on you. Are you building the car to keep or sell. Many will make the arguement that this can devalue the car. If you are keeping it, who cares?

A few companies sell motor mount kits to swap the 460 into fox bodied cars (including the Mustang). It should be pretty much a bolt in swap. The only issue is rewiring the engine compartment for the engine and induction being used.

As for the 302 vs. 460 issue, as the saying goes, there is no replacement for displacement.

Possible spring change, but none of the strut towers will need to be modified. I've seen the conversion done of other fox bodies and other than the mounts (which you can buy), it's a simple, straight swap. Now the transmission on the other hand...

Kaufmann Products makes the swap kit. They also make different swap kits for some other vehicles.

U have to ask yourself why and what r u going to use the car for. I love big block fords, but for the same money u could put a windsor stroker in and have a everyday car. Do the homework first, u might be surprised.

Another consideration is use. If you're going to try to go around twisties at any speed, the 460 will make the car very nose-heavy. If you're looking for a straight-line car, there's no replacement for displacement...

yeah beware, fox body cars are fun with big blocks, but its going to completely murder your handling... and I'm sure you already have noticed that the rearend is VERY light, so with that extra weight in the frontend, you're going to have to be extra careful, especially in the rain (we used to refer to my 87 mustang as the tiltawhirl when it rained)... if i were you though, i'd stick with something fuel injected unless this is just your weekend warrior
