    Unhappy Got Problems,,, Engine And Tranny Combo???

     



    ALRIGHT. well i have a1950 chevy pickup that has had a recent frame off restoration , a 283 chevy bored out 60".... and a th 400 tranny from a junk yard... well... we had to make a flywheel for that and stuff and i put about 2000 miles on the pickup so far.. but my drive gear is starting to slip.. i have been looking into the 700 r4 trannys and i also want to put a set a 3.73 gears in the back. im wondering if anyone would konw what would all be involved with replaceing that 400 with a 700r4??? what things would i need to buy? how long would it take??

    small rebuilt 2 bbl carb.. hei ignition...

    if anyone would have some information.. i would very very much appretiate it ... i need to do this very soon as prom is coming up!!!!! thank you all

    The 700r will bolt right in ! You will have to get a TV cable setup , lokar has them and a wiring kit for the converter lockup . You can get a kit from painless for the converter . The only other changes would be for the rear tranny mount and the drive shaft length . I,m not sure about the yoke sizes !! Hope this helps as the OD will work nice on the road with the 3:7 's,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    PS the starter could pose some problems also as a 700r has no starter bolt holes

    Yup, pretty much what 4webers said. the biggest part is going to be gettin' a driveshaft made, and that's not bad at all. It'll bolt right to the block, you'll want to put in a switch for the converter lock up and remount the tranny mount. Not a bad swap at all and that 700 won't rob as much power as the 400.
