250 - 292 Engine Swap
I have a 292 to replace the 250 in my '70 K5 Chevy Blazer. The motor mount on the passenger side is not in the same location on the 292 (moved forward about 4 inches). Do I need to get a crossmember for a 292 to complete the change?
The upper portion of the engine mount frame tower looks like it will relocate to existing holes in the top of the frame rails however, the bottom of the frame tower that would normally bolt to the crossmember is left unsupported when moved forward - not good. Any Ideas??

the 292 engine was an option on the older Chevy trucks.....why not try the dealer parts guy to see if he has the info on how they mounted? I always thought the block bosses for motor mounts were in the same place as is a 250 but you obviously have one that isnt. What did the 292 come out of?

The bosses on both engines are in the same location on the drivers side. There were clearance issues with the internals of the 292 which required the relocation of the passenger side boss.
I have had no luck with the dealer. I'm thinking that the crossmember for the frame on a truck equipped with a 292 engine is offset in the same way the engine bosses are. But, don't have any facts. I've looked in junkyards - I'll probably need ot keep looking until I find one. It would be nice to have a source where I could get one quick. My project is dead until I find one or fabricate my own.

I see that 1970 Chev trucks could be purchased with either a 250 or a 292. Chevy did not typically make two crossmembers for a truck series.......this swap has been done a zillion times so there is an easy answer......if we can just find it.
What about the Chevy truck parts folks that are always sending catalogs out?.....forget their name.
Anyway, there is probably a frame plate that has an extension built into it so that the motor mount bolts to the block in a normal fashion and does not torque the rubber in the mount......I will look to see if I have any old shop manuals that show an exploded drawing.

Thanks, I have looked in the truck catalogs - LMC, and a number of others. They all have the motor mounts but not the associated hardware for the 292. You may be right about the frame plate. I'm sure the swap has been done alot. I thought I could get some feedback from someone that has done it on this site. Please let me know If you find an exploded view anywhere.
THANKS AGAIN!
