"better" is a relative term. Better for what?
If I were going to build an extreme engine for racing, I might want to start with a 4-bolt block, but for 95% of the street or street/strip motors out there, a 2-bolt block will work just fine because the motor will be rpm-limited by the cam anyway.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Always did a lot of reading on these type of sites today decided to sine up and learn more and help someone like me to do research. I have a yellow 1987 firebird, buddies nic named "Big Bird." Not too many ppl like the 3rd gens but I always did finally got one and love the way it handles, but wanted some more power. The 305 fuel emission controlled computer controlled 4 barrel Q-jet power house needs some help. Put a K&N with a 3in open element and woke it right up made a hell of a difference. Seen you all are looking into building a 350 or already have. Good friend of mine built a 350 for his 70' 1\2 camaro. Nice ride. 350 block 2 bolt, vor-tech heads board .030 over mild cam. 355 about 400hp 300-400 torque not sure. So I asked him to help me on this venture. I met this guy that deals junk and other things, came up to me and said he had the truck for me, (I was also looking into getting a truck) S10 he said. Well I hate S10s Ex the zr2s, so turned him down. he told me to come and look any way, so I did. The previous owner put a 350 in an 84 S10, headers 350 turbo trans. Truck was junk but the motor had work done to it. I purchased the truck ran the numbers on the motor. My unusual find was a 1969 350 with 400cin heads on it noise timing Edlebrock Performer rpm intake, found out today 4 bolt main. Needs a rebuild hope to make a 383 out of it but I just put over 700 In clutch and seals and front breaks. So I will do what the first guy wanted to do 350-400 horse and want to be able to head out west with it to find a rust free 400 Pontiac some day. I suggest a mild cam for what you are doing you are going to want more torque don't forget the torque gm heads limit things so might want to invest into AFR or vortech heads not really sure what kind of budget your working with but those are really good components. Well I hope I helped some. Sorry for the life story but sometimes details help.Last edited by 87Firebird; 06-16-2005 at 02:35 PM.
