if out 180 you can turn the cap 180 but its best
to find #1 top dead center in firing position and
setting it right

Pull the distributor, turn it 180, and put it back in. The oil pump drive will line up all right.

Get #1 cylinder at top dead on the power stroke and find out where your rotor is pointing, then rewire your plug wires from there, if they reach the new locations on the cap. If not do what R Pope said, but I have had some trouble getting that distributor to drop right back into place since the oil pump drive turns when you pull the distributor out.
