help with 51 chevy please
about a week ago i was driving and my car sputtered and died. i towed it home and have gone through the whole thing but cannot figure out why it won't start. sometimes it will sputter for a few seconds and then dies again. the fuel pump is ok, and i know i am getting spark because it will sputter for a few seconds. please let me know if you have any ideas.

yuppers, bout a 12 dollar part from any reputable auto parts store. Make shure you use the lube that comes with them, if it does not, buy some, they sell the lube for the points, it lubricates the timing cam on the inside. Whail your at it get a new condensor, cap and rotor, give it the compleate tune up.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

It is possible to have a bad ground between distributor and points. Remove them, clean up the distributor base and metal base of points and try again. I use a Pertronics ignitor in place of points and it works great. About $90 bucks at NAPA. You will have to order it, but then setting the points will be a thing of the past. If not a 215 or 235, can still get a Pertronics for other engines with mechanical points.
