410 in a '74 F-100
I need someone to set me straight on something, the motor in my 74 says 390 on the air cleaner but when I took it in to be overhauled a few years ago, the mechanic told me it was a merc 410 right out of the factory. Is this true?

Hi. The only 410 references I've been able to find are for '66-'67 Mercury. The 390 as such was supposed to end in about 1976 for the pickups, so that's the most likely thing.
The 410 is a 390 bore (4.05), with a 428 crankshaft, giving it the longer stroke and more displacement. The cranks will usually have 1U or 1UA on one of the counterweights.
Hopefully DennyW will jump in here - he's very knowledgeable on the 410 engines and can straighten out my errors.Tim -

410 Help
Hello everybody. How can you push a 410 over 500 HP at the wheels? I am just starting to put a little work into mine and would like to do so. Thanks
Great to see your new post, Mike, and great to see CHR up and running again after several days of the Hmmm, can't reach this page.... Also good that you found an easy solution to your storage/access...
