353 Project
My new 350 or should I say 353:
Doesn't look like much yet. It's been bored .020" over and had .010" cut off the deck. I just installed the freeze plugs/galley plugs today and it will be painted by the end of tonight. Tommorow I will file fit the rings and hopefully get the bottom end assembled.Last edited by 76GMC1500; 08-27-2005 at 10:56 PM.

It's going in my 1976 GMC pickup. I'll get some more pictures tommorow. It's kind of a rat rod right now, but I don't intend to keep it that way. I bought the truck for cheap and it has been my reliable daily driver. The old engine was getting a little worn out and I had $2500 burning a hole in my pocket from my summer internship on a ship so I decided to build a new engine for it. I am glad I did to, one of the cam bearings was shot and I had 3 broken piston rings.

Day 2 is done. I file fit the rings, the tops are set to .030" gap and the 2nd are set between .016 and .018". I had to file some of the 2nd rings because they were too tight. I installed the cam and then the crank. Everything was going great, but as I was tightening the rear main cap, at about 45 ft lbs, it popped. Looks like I'll be buying a helicoil tommorow. I was a little upset about that. The rest of the bottom end is ready to be put in. I have all of the rings fit on the pistons. I still need to put the pistons on the rods and then they'll be ready to drop in the hole.
How do I get my pictures to show up as pictures instead of links?Last edited by 76GMC1500; 08-28-2005 at 10:23 PM.

Day 3, it is officially a short block. The stripped out hole set me back someI am a day behind what I would like to be. I wanted to have the engine running at the end of tommorow. I did install a helicoil and am confident that it will hold up. Onto the next problem. I set the dowel pins for the heads in a little deeper than I would like and can't get them back out. I will either need to knock them into the water jacket or drill them out. I don't like the idea of having loose dowel pins in my waterjacket even though I know they will drop right to the bottom and have no effect on anything.

A skip is a huge crate with chains on it at all four corners, the only way I know to shift it is to hire a Hiab. A Hiab is a small crane mounted at either end of a truck's tray...some pick up at...
