350 Crate ?
Ok I found this site on Chevy Talk... Anyone have any info on these like pro's and cons, etc? Would it be cheaper to build from scratch, any idea how much power these things will hold?

Here's a place with an even better warranty 100,000 that includes LABOR!! There are a huge amount of performance engines but there are some. Look at the Performance One listings.http://www.powerpro2000.com/long_block_engines.htmThere is no substitute for cubic inches

FMX, Are you asking about GM crate engines in general, or that specific engine?
I couldn't comment on building from scratch, as I have never done it yet. One of my reasons to use a crate was due to time constraints. Some of it depends on what you think your time is worth and how you want to spend it.
Check the fine print on the warranty, I believe the longer ones stipulate that they would be installed by a mechanic.
Not too long ago I purchased a new 290HP/350 from ATK. It was pretty sweet having a brand new engine delivered right to my house. I wish I had done a little more research before I got it. I have a buddy that works for a local parts warehouse that could have saved me literally hundreds in costs, (markup and shipping). I also understand that your local GM parts dealer can sometimes have the best prices on GM-Performance parts.
I've also found that Salee Chevrolet has some of the better information on the net.

I am trying to decide on buying one and putting it in my 85 in a few months since the 305 that I have in it now has a lot of miles. But then again I am going to get a manifold, carb and updated to MSD already and I would like to just get a short block and do the rest. I think for the 48 I would like to build my own I don't know.... Thanks Twitch for that site I will check it out.www.streamlineautocare.com
