79 cobra 302, 2 carb stock, what can i take off?
Hey all, I got a 79 cobra a year ago from the owner with ALL the paper work & it looks like a jummbled mess under the hood! It's stock as it can be with a/c & everything. And it's hard to even do the small things like change the spark plugs. It's bad! I want it to look clean under the hood. I need to know what i can take off!? I have no emissions in AL. & i want to take off a/c & anything having to do with emissions. I wanting to get a good intake, carb, headers, fuel pump, pro pully kit, elc fan, maybe some heads. I'm 20 & not a Mechanic but i want to save money & learn at the same time. So Plz help out if ya can!? thanks for your time. Dave

don't try to change the engering of the car and taking off all the things that you mentioned.it is going to take away from the car. imo. it's a ford and it comes with the territory. just keep working on it and you will get used to it in no time and you wii have a bettter car for it. good luckWRENCHD

change the heads, cam, intake, and carb to the Edelbrock RPM system. If you don't get rid of the lazy stock cam and smogger heads, you won't gain much by just removing the emissions equipment, other then accessibilty....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

That engine is a boat anchor if you are looking for performance. You would be better off building an engine from the ground up than trying to make that 140 hp wonder go. 5.0 parts are cheap compared to a couple of years ago. If you are not in a hurry you can also score some good deals on used stuff that has seen little use from someone that has not completed a project or that is ready to upgrade again.
I would keep all of you old stuff handy.
That is a first year car and some people are looking to the 79 cobra mustang as a quasi collectible.

also if you do decide to make mods to it including removing emissions equipment, take note there is a space on the header outlet to the pipes, it has a setup for the egr, to properly remove this you'll have to get a new exaust as welljust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
