Chevy 350 tachometer problem
Hello, my chevy 350 tachometer cable snapped. I purchased an electric tachometer and everyone says it should work. What wire on the distributor would i use for the tach to work? I wired everything but the distributor wire for the tach? Thanks

Before anyone can answer, they gotta know what kind of Chevy engine that it is and what distributor that it has (HEI or points). It is confusing that the engine had a cable drive tach.....was it an older Corvette setup?

The motor is in a 1978 pontiac firebird so it is a earlie model chevy 350, the distributor is a points distributor. I am pretty sure it had a cable drive tach but i could possibly be wrong, i just know it doesn't work.

'78 small block has HEI ignition, one post is labeled "tach" on the cap. Probably the one that's by itself since not all had the tach, it would be added separately.

i think the wire that is by itself is the ignition wire because the car wont start without it pluhhed in but is that the wire im looking for?

The ignition wire is usually red, and bigger than the others. Look close at the cap, it should say "Tach" on it.
