    Cool 390 Ford FE

I have a couple questions to ask a friend of mine recently purchased a 1967 ford Ranchero and we want to stroke it by putting a scatt remanufactured crank. The measurments of the crank are 4.500 stroke . This turns the engine in to a 473 which I get. What I wanted to know was if we do that do we need to change the rods, pistons, heads and if we should bore the engine while we are at it. Also will we have any clearence problems with the valves and the pistons.

Any time you increase the stroke, the pistons or rods have to be changed to prevent the piston tops from coming out of the block at TDC. With that much stroke, you might have to change both to get enough difference.

I'd suggest you buy the entire stroker kit, then you get all the right components.

Homes, here is a link you might want to check out for FE stroker combinations. Prices are reasonable:http://www.speedomotive.com/FORD%20S...ANK%20KITS.htm

I didn't know that Scat made a 4.5 stroke FE crank???? I've only seen 4.125 and the 4.250.

HI NEW TO THE SCENE HERE. I BELIVE THAT THE SCAT CRANKS HAVE BEEN USING CHEVY CONNECTING RODS BECAUSE THEY AR THINNER ON THE ROTATING PART OR THE ASSEMBALY.BUT LIKE DAVE SEVERSON MENTIONED IF YOU BUY THE WHOLE STOKER KIT TOGETHER YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THE RIGHT COMBO. THE MACHINE SHOP WILL BE ABLE TO HELP IF THERE IS ANY CLEARANCE ISSUES WITHE THE ROTATING.
