depends on what package your car was.... it could be either yellow, ford blue, ford red, or possibly even blackjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

it was a D code 312 with dress up package, (finned valve covers and chrome air cleaner/chrome breather cap.).

We had a '57 Ford wagon with a 312 T-Bird special engine that was black.

hmmm i've always seen them as red at car shows when they're equiped with the finned valve covers and chrome air cleaners.... but also back in those days when you bought a car you could ask for whatever you wanted added to your car .. so maybe the package was added to your black motor after it had been painted for a different packagejust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Most YBlocks after 54 were red, except for the Merc's which were green. They may have used some other colors during the later years
