Chevy Straight Sixes
I have a question for all you straight six lovers out there. I have a 194 in my wife 62 Nova Wagon and I was hoping to put a bigger six in it for a little more power. I think I want to stay with a six because my wife does not want a V8. Can anyone tell me if all the Chevy sixes have the same block? Meaning use the same manifolds motor mounts etc.? If not which ones match up with the 194?Itsaposcj5

Here's a thread with a little info about a 250 six that came available in '67. Not sure if it will bolt in, maybe someone else will know.....

By the way, what does the wife have against a small V8? Chevy offered a 327 dealer installed option in '62. I would think that something like a 305 with attached auto tranny would be a cheap alternative. Do a search for "Nova V8 swap".PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

The 194, 230, and 250 are interchangeable. For more grunt, the truck 292 will fit, its the same but taller deck height. The 292 would be my choice.

I'd have to agree with the 292. You can recognize one by the taller side covers,and different distributer location.

With the taller deck, I'd make sure you could close the hood with that engine (292) in there before buying. A 250 might be a better bet.
A coupe other options you may not have thought about;
* 4.3L V-6 - Uses the same mounts as a small block V-8. Can be run carburated or injected. There is some minor aftermarket support for this engine.
* 4.2L I-6 from the new Trailblazer - Yes, you'd have to fabricate mounts. You'd have to wire for the computer (not that hard). And you'd have 275 HP and an overdrive transmission (and probably great mileage).---Tom

Thanks for the input guys. A V8 and 4.3 have both been a consideration but I think it is really great to have a inline 6 in it. It is different and I like being a little different, as long as it does not cost me more money. The previous owner added a Clifford cam, 4 barrel intake, header and full exhaust. It sounds great at idle and part throttle. So for now I think the Inline six will be in there until the wife starts complaining about the 3 on the tree and the stock suspension and steering. (She is still trying to learn how to drive a manual trans).Itsaposcj5
A skip is a huge crate with chains on it at all four corners, the only way I know to shift it is to hire a Hiab. A Hiab is a small crane mounted at either end of a truck's tray...some pick up at...
