choke and secondaries
I was just wondering if a choke is nessicary to have on a street car and what are the effects of not having one?
Also, holley says "For street cars the vacuum secondary carburetor works best on midweight or heavyweight cars with an automatic transmission. They are more forgiving than a Double Pumper is because they work by sensing engine load. The mechanical secondary carburetor is best on a lighter car with radical camshaft and a lower gear and manual transmission or on a car that is going to be used for racing purposes." for secondaries.
I have a heavy truck, with low gears, a 292 dur camshaft, with an automatic trans. Which one would best apply to me?

With no choke, the engine won't just start and run on a cold start, you have to pedal the gas and "nurse" it for a while. Once its a bit warm it will run right.
The vacuum secondary carb is better on a truck, you get better low end response.

thanx for the response, I didnt mean to sound stupid, but i have never had a carb with a choke on it, so i dont know the luxery then of not having to nurse it. Also, then what do you do with a manual choke?
thanx again

With the manual choke, you are the sensor. When you feel the engine is warming up, you begin gradually opening the choke, via the underdash mounted cable, until finally the car will run well because it is warm enough.
Problem is, sometimes you forget to do that, and you are running around partially choked until you wake up.Don........as long as I have projects to finish I can't die

depends what your engine build is... i do reccomend the street avengers though... they're very good carbs, i have 2 and haven't had any problems at all with them yetjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

put a small return spring on the choke butterfly linkage, that will
insure you won't forget and drive with the choke on!
kinda hard on the gas usage & plugs, unless you want to make you;re ride sound like its cammed to the 9's

i just want to make sure that the 770cfm street avenger will provide enough fuel, cuz i think the 4150 street hp, will be too much.
thanx
