    harmonic balancer

I am building a sbc 327 and need a balancer. I was wandering about the different sizes, is it just a preference thing or should I run a certain size?

you just gotta make sure that the balancer matches the flywheel/flexplate.. and both of those should be balanced to the crank as well.... technically they dont need to be balanced to the crank as long as the crank is balanced to the rods and the balancer and flywheel are the same balance.... but its best to have the whole assembly balanced for best performance
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Chev balancers are all neutrally balanced except for the 400, so they will all work on any crank (again, except for the 400) .
The front cover has to match the damper, there are different diameters, timing marks in different places, etc.

OK- if your going to run a 327 I would run a solid damper, you will just spin the later model's at the rubber & like the others said I'd have it balenced with the rotating assy.
