    engine miss

Took off from a light this morning and it felt like I had a miss. If you put your ear near the sidepipe on the right side of the car you can hear a slight tick. Could I have damaged a valve or lifter ? and if so, How do I check ??Thanks
Pulled plugs they looked ok and the wires are all new.

Ticking may occur when you have a much needed oil change. The family Tahoe was many thousands of miles over due and started to tick and miss. After it was fixed, the missing and ticking stopped.

to diagnose a bad exhaust valve :

Have an assistant rev up the engine, then release the throttle suddenly. When the throttle is released, cover the exhaust with your hand ( obviously, don't do this with a hot exhaust ). If you have a bad exhaust valve, you will feel your hand sucked in when that cylinder hits the intake stroke. * or is that the power stroke?*

anyway.. you'll feel your hand sucked in between the exhaust strokes of the other cylinders.
    .
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

check the compression, that will tell you everything you need to know about the valves. if you have good. comp. then you can move on.

If minor damage is the culprit I don't know if that would work. Also, on a V8 arent there 4cylinders firing at a time, two on either side?

cylinder leakage test is the real way to know whats wrong even better than a compression check.... then you can check and see where you're losing your compression
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

lt1s10 I did the comp test, all cyl are between 150-158. Changed the wires and the plugs. My accelerator cable broke so I cannot take it for a ride until tomorrow. I am thinking there might be an intermittent elec prob.

checking the comp. may not tell you whats wrong, but it tells you a lot of things that is right. now you can move on to the fuel and ign. sounds like you have a good tight motor.
