How does this build sound? 305.

Not sure if anyone has one of those desktop dynos willing to run it through for me.

Was wondering if anyone can just take a look at this build see if is even compatible together.

386 HP @ 6,000 by my calculations and fill in's on Dyno 2000, I wouldn't trust those numbers, but it appears the combo does work

By any chance did it say what the compression came out to?

just so you know i wouldn't go with the demon carb, those things are a real pain to get running right, even good tuners have trouble getting them to run right... a holley street avenger would probably work for you better, easy to tune, and they run tough, and they're a lil cheaper too
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

dyno 2000 does not figure comp ratio's ( probably could if it had pistion type changability but, I guessed at 10.00, but it is probably 9.5 shouldn't make much diffrence )

I will take a look at the holley avenger. Thanks for the recommendation. My buddy that is going to be helping me do the car swears by Demon.

So what do you guys think of the build? Is there anything I could do to pull more torque. Could I go with a larger cam?

I'm thinking of maybe supercharging it later on.

I've used Demons before and I've watched my boss (about 20 years of drag racing experience) using Demons on his drag/street cars for a long time. He's used them on everything from 548 cui all the way down to the 305 cui that's in his daughter's chevelle. We use a Demon on the dirt circle track car that my work sponsors. Never had a problem with a Demon so far.

It's all preference. I don't personally like the edelbrock carburators at all. Then there are people that won't use anything but that. The same with quadrajet carbs. I think they are one of the sorriest carbs ever made, but there are people that swear they are one of the best made. It's all personal opinion. Find a brand you like and use the brand, don't let other people tell you to use one thing just because they like it. Research the carburators, compare them, and then make a decision on what you want.

It's not hard to figure compression ratio for yourself if you just take a little time and pay attention to what you're doing. Read this paper I wrote....

OK, so what's the big difference between a Demon and a Holley other than the metering blocks are billet and not porous castings. This makes them "a real pain" to tune? Horse Cookies!

Do you have any personal experience with them?!

Or are you (more likely) just passing along some anecdote you have heard somewhere along the line?

i've owned 2 demons, both of them i've had a lot of trouble getting to run right, took them in to a tuning shop and it took them 3 days to get them set right, i've had a few holleys and a few edelbrocks as well, the holleys i found the easiest to tune, and seemed to run just the same as my 2 demons did...

we really need to know what you want the engine for, street, street/ strip, or drag. a larger cam will move the powerband up the rpm's, and torque also, if you have a 9.5:1 comp ratio now, and you want to supercharge, supercharging can use no more than 8.5:1 with maximum boost preassure set, lowering your compression would mean getting a set of bigger heads, to get the comp ratio down, like 64cc's

It's going to be my weekend car, ocassional Drag. Supercharging it really depends on how much I can get out of the 305 without supercharging it. So lets look at it not worrying about supercharger. I know 350 etc etc, but I want to do 305. I like the stigma a 305 has, and If I can make it a performer I think that would be great. Currently its a Automatic also, and I think I'm going to leave it that way.

I was told I should go with a larger carburator like a 750 with no secondaries and manual( for more response) since the heads have a better flow.

So if i'm not going with with a supercharger I probably could go with aluminum heads?

I know the 305 is not going to have a lot of torque, but I still want it to be able to get out of the hole pretty quick. I want the car to be pretty responsive.

Now I was told before I start worring about the engine. I need to decide what I was going to do with transmission. Anyone have a suggestion on what gears I should do etc. I was going to have the 350 Turbo rebuilt.

I was taking a look at this setup also. I was told if I'm under a 9.5:1 ratio go with this setup.

    quote....
    "I like the stigma a 305 has"

You have mistakenly used the proper word to describe the 305...

American Heritage Dictionary defines "stigma" as "a mark or token of disgrace or reproach".....

Well, I guess that describes the 305 alright.....
