NITROUS+STREET= $11,000 in damage
To those who were aware that i HAD a 1985 iroc-z28 runnin on nitrous...u wont be hearin much about her after this thread. I went out with a few friends to get some ice cream up at RITA's , and we got to talkin bout how good my iroc sounded. a kid there had a mustang and started runnin his mouth. To make a long story short, i spun the car around twice and slammed into a ditch at about 55-60 mph. had to climb out of the car through the sidewindow being that she was on her roof. Only part that i salvaged on her was a few pieces of the interior and the brand new 10 pound nitrous bottle that is now about half empty. I tried to lie my out of it to my dad by saying that the throttle was stuck. But i didnt get far with that explanation when he saw the good 20 foot burnout i left a mile or so down the road. After sinking close to $11,000 into that car to get her into the low 12's, i was extremely pissed at myself. Now she rests peacefully under a blue tarp in the far corner of the woods on our property hiding from the cops that might have gotten wind of the accident. The moral of this story is to leave your lead foot at the track. And to keep your finger off the button. If anybody on this site will be at CARLISLE on october 5...first $500 takes the car.

History...
IROCZ28... Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it happens to the best of us... You've heard the saying "older but wiser", be thankfull that you were able to walk away, nobody got hurt and now you are a little more of both... Believe it or not this will be a story that you will be telling your Hot Rod buddies for the rest of your life!!!
"Hey IROC, tell us that story again about the time you rolled your Camaro!!"
Good to hear that yo are O.K...

WOW, thats really to bad, but glad your still with us IROCZ28. It could of been a lot worse.
I sure hope some of our younger members read this post, cuz, just maybe it will make them think twice before they stomp it to the floor in a street race instead of the strip.

And talking to you like your dad, that's why they build drag strips. An expensive lesson, for sure.

thats pretty much the one reason that i decided to post this thread. it doesnt matter how good of a driver you THINK you are, you can ask any of my friends and they'll tell ya that before my accident i'd race against anyone that had the nerve to doubt the power of my car. and now i dont even acknowledge those. that accident had a major affect on the way i view my life being that i am only 18. like F100kid said, thats why they build dragways. if anyone has the nerve to doubt your ride, just simply offer to pay their way into the dragstrip...chances are they'll turn it down for some bullshit reason, but at least you left the option open.

Too bad about the Z, been there done that. I suppose you're right about goin to the drag strip, but at the same time, the "real" side of me still enjoys getting it on on the street from time to time. Yes, I have crashed my share doing it, and no, I don't think I am the world's best driver and it could never happen to me. I suppose I am wrong, but I still think "Street is Neat". No reason to have a bunch of horsepower if you can't take it out and play with it. Go ahead, pile on the criticism, just bein honest is all !!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

thanks for the heads up Al...but my parents saw how pissed i was and brought me home a bright red '99 SS (bring on the comments)
Tree Killer: actually yes, i did win...only to find out that the mustang i was racin was bone stock except for his 80 series flowmaster, my friend steve said that once the smoke cleared the kid got out of it and said it "wasnt worth his time."
DDTS: yesterday i ventured out to the woods (with my girlfriend) and pulled off the tarp. the radiator was wrapped around the front pulleys (which were brand new BBK pulleys) I salvaged the TPI and aluminum heads which we might use on another of our many projects. havent gotten a good look at the block but i'll let ya know once i get her pulled out. The nitrous system was a brand new NOS kit for TPI engines. that will be sold at carlisle along with the interior and rear. trust me...i am not one for parting out cars, but thats the only way i can afford my new ride.
by the way...im glad my girlfriend went back in the woods to 'see my car'...lol
