Has anyone ever tried to install a TBI...
...from a 1980s or '90s GM engine onto an older (read: carbureted) engine? I have a '68 Impala Custom Coupe with a Q-Jet atop a 327, but would like to know if it's possible (and practical) to take a throttle-body injector from a later-model GM and make it work on my block without major modifications to anything but the fuel lines to and from the gas tank.
Any ideas? Has this been done before and it's just that I can't find it? Would love to know how it's done, as it would be better to do this than spend $3K on an aftermarket conversion kit.
Thanks!
Chuck

The intake manifold bolts are more straight on the tbi heads and the older heads are more angled. Just to night I put a new edelbroke intake on the tbi heads to convert it to carburated But I have never heard of puting the tbi manifold on older heads. Maybe there is a intake for that to.joe bogger

Tbi...
That's kinda why I asked...I was wondering what it would take (besides a carb adapter plate to get the TBI to mate to the old manifold) to retrofit a newer TBI setup to an older Q-Jet manifold.
Thx,

that has been done alot, holley makes adapters to go right on you old 327 manifold. get the throttle body, dist and computer from a bone yard and a new Co2 and knock sensor and a wiring harness from painless and put it together I haven't done it myself yet, not quite up to that point but i know many others on here can help you out better than i can.Seth
