hey stepside i like the idea of a hot 292, i my 1st car had a 250 6 and there good engines not big hp but good torque.
i dont know if you will find a aftermarket head for it. i think they have the same head as a 250 6 cyl but am not shure.
if the head needs work ie valve job try to get bigger valves and also try to find someone reputable that can do some simple porting on the engine.
i had a chevy 4 cyl boat engine rebuilt by a shop i knew, they are basicly like a 250 6 cyl with 2 cut off .
he knew what he was doing and had gotten a little bigger cam comp up around 9.5 and bigger vaves and pistons plus did a little porting in the valve seat areas cost not much more than what basicly a rebuild would cost and the difference was great, not great high end hp but its in a 18 1/2 fit heavy fibreglass deep v boat and it can just about get 50mph out of it !!!
a lot of other boaters actually think its a small v8 in it as it can yank a skier out of the water like nothin
headers and a intake on a 6 cyl help a lot, look at a small 4 bbl as opposed to 3 carbs if you want easy tunability,warning dont go overboard on the cam as you may create a engine that wont be driveable in a heavier truck

If you REALLY wanna build that 6 and make it hot...Which is a great idea. The 292 has a HUGEEEE stroke which makes it put out good torque numbers.

Their stuff is kind of expensive, but when your the one of the few I6 performance parts dealers, you can mark your prices a little.
