Valves Tapping
I know the answer is somewhere in the threads , but im no good at finding things in the search area, so heres the problem, i have a bad tapping coming from 2 or more rockers , ive tried to halve ass adjust them but oil gets every where, tonight i took each rocker off 1 by 1 to visually inspect them, even though i really dont know a bad from a good one , but they did not look too worn, and the pushrods were not bent, i did find some thing that disturbedme though, 1 of the valves rattled a slight bit when i pushed it from side to side , im no expert but this does not seem right, but im not getting oil by the guides,i guess my question for yall is how do i know what component is bad? , how do i tell if a lifter is sticking or not? and does any body have any secrets on how to adjust valves without getting oil every where? i tried the clips ,did not work to well,oh the engine is stock 350, flat top pistons, 202 , 64cc heads, no fancy rollers or nothing ,just stock stuff, any tips would help tremendously, thanks

If you are saying, that with the rocker off and you can move the valve stem side to side, that's not good. Bad Valve Guide at the very least.

Well since we lost the rest of the posts to this thread, ill fill in here,i took the heads off, took the lifters out,and pulled all the rockers off, i see no major wear on anything accept 1 lifter has a slightly different wear patturn than the rest, and 1 rocker stud has grooves in it, i got some pics ready to post, if you guys see any thing fishy let me know

The oil clips will surely help greatly. But warm the engine up first thoroughly and install them as hot as you can. You will still get oil out; it's time dependent. Are you using a high lift cam with this valve train? I think probably not as you would have more damage. Stock rockers have limited slot length and will bind on the rocker studs quickly beyond stock lifts, scoring and breaking studs and galling the valve stem tops. Make sure the rocker slots are adequate for your cam.
Otherwise your theory of a sticking lifter seems plausible to me.
Bummer dude ..........

Unfortunatly the cam was in the engine when i bought the car, so i have no idea, it does not sound to wild though, it idles really good at 700 rpm, no thumpidy thump to it, the only stud scored is #1 cylinder, if i pull the cam out will it have #s on it to tell me what lift?

Check the selected area of the head.
It appears that the valve guide is worn out and caused the valve to slop around in the vavle seat. This would cause some noise in the engine.
The only question is, did the motor smoke a little when you would first start it or after you let off the throttle?

Well i pulled the cam out , the numbers on the end read -04 upside down1 then 4 then it has #11-16-87 ,then ssi then on the shaft it has 0288, and stamped cwc, im taking the heads to a shop tomorrow to have em checked over, the guy there today told me that running those heads 64cc with flat top pistons puts me at 11to1 compression, and i probably burned the exhaust valves running standard gas, he said i should switch to 74cc heads

yeah 64cc heads are small for a 350 thats more of a 327 or 305 head..... if you do stick with those heads for one reason or another a recomendation would be to put a straight edge across the top of the rocker studs to make sure they're not pulling out, a little scoring on them worries me, i've had it happen a few times with an aftermarket cam and standard headsjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Well i traded the doublehumps for a set of 74cc 1.95/1.50 heads so im hoping that will help me out some, plus they are newer so they have hardend valve seats
