What intake?
I just got my 1976 Chevelle Laguna.
Its still got the stock 305 in it with the 2 barrel carb. im puting new headers on it and new complete exhaust and i was wondering what everyones suggestion would be for a high horspower air intake upgrade without changing the carb. thanks in advance for the info.

"A high horsepower intake" doesn't exist if you don't change a bunch of other things to compliment it. Especially the 2bbl carb. You MAY see a marginal improvement with a Performer style dual plane intake but don't expect it to turn your 140HP small block into a fire breather. Not gonna happen.
You would be better off to do a good tune-up on the stock set-up AFTER you get your new exhaust on it.
If you want to see some bang for your buck yank the 305, as is, and slip in a crate 350 or 383. Slap some 305 stickers on it and go hunting...
A 700R4 OD trans is pretty much a bolt in and it will help off the light response and increase your MPG while cruising...

Just an intake change won't accomplish much, if anything. If you want to keep the 305, go looking for the aluminum factory intake and Q-Jet 4 barrell set up. The stock 4 barrell intake and carb with a mild cam and headers will at least let the engine breathe a bit.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

i have great news. i got the car and first good chance to take a look. Its not the stock 305 like the guy sayed its a 4bbl 350 needless to say i was extremely happy. thanx for all the help though. and i have another question. i found an intake manifold out of a old corvette that holds TWO four barrel carbs and it will fit on my 350. is this a good idea ( the intake is only 100 bucks. i was wanting if i got it to put two holly double pumper 4 barrels with electronic choke on it ( i found them for 236 a peice and is this a good price)? thanx for the previous help

Two fours on the street are more for show then for go..... Double the trouble for tuning and snyching the carbs. Might want to stick with the single four barrell the car has now and keep the streetability instead of the wow factor....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Ditto on what Dave said... Especially two "double pumpers"... You need to find out the specs for the rest of the engine. Stock? Rebuilt? Compression? Cam specs, etc., etc.
Just something for you to think about... The factory used two four barrels or three two barrels to increase performance on the "high performance" vesions of their cars... Multiple carbs went away in the late 60's because the simpler, less costly 4bbl carbs worked better, were easier to tune and out-performed the multiple carb set-ups...
I know you are excited about your "new" car but use some restraint and continue to ask questions here. We will not mislead you...

For a hundred bucks I'd buy the manifold and take it to a swap meet, some 'Vette guy might swap for some stuff you can use. Congrats on lucking out on the 350!

Stay away from double pumpers with an automatic transmission. Vacuum secondary carbs work much better.

If the manifold is an early style, which I believe it to be, you can't put DP's on it unless you rotate the carbs 90* and design some real interesting linkage.
I don't think you can get hurt for 100 bucks, though.Ken Thomas

i know it has been awhile since i have responded. thanks SO MUCH for the help everyone. i have been working so much that i finally got time to star tback on the car. so here is where im at. did some studying and learned some about carbs. so i have my quadra jet and 350 still stock. this week i have (changed oil , plugs , wires , greesed chassis , tuned carb , bought four brand new tires , raised the rear suspension , and blown a radiator hose , lol. gotta fix that this weekend). dose anyknow where i can get a spoiler at for a 76 laguna ? i have only seen one laguna with a spoiler and i really liked it. i am also thinking of buying the conversion kit for350 into a 383 stroker and boring it over 80. with the kit i would only have to change piston size right , well for now? thanxs alot yall , helps alot
