Everytime I go out to the crusher yard I seem to find somthing about to get smashed. This time at home it was a 1967 Impala with 327 emblem on the fender. It had a small block with automatic so i bought the motor for 150 and the trans was a T400 so I got it to for 125. The car was last tagged in 1975 so I was betting the engine was good. It had camel humps on it and they ended up being 461's in desent shape, took the pan off and noticed the wide band on the Steel Crank, i guess somebody put it in it because of the newer flange on the rear (was not round). The cranks seems to be in perfect condition, I could not find any numbers on it only GMT. It is a small journal, std bore engine that doesn't look to need boring. So when I get home I will take the block and crank to the machine shop but what next? Is the small journal good enough to build a decent 327. Since It already has the steel crank I was thinking about boring it and building an 11:1 motor. Was thinking of just buying some better heads rather than putting money into the 461's. Would like to build it with the max HP I can get out of the block figuring on getting some better rods and try to get 400 to 450 HP out of it. If all that would work what heads would I need? Fully ported, fastburn, or what? It will prob be put in my 68 camaro.
