    oil from breather cap

     



    In my 62 post i have built a mild 383 LT1 late model carb motor, full roller, 11:1 comp.
    Problem i have the car has done 150-200 miles i have been nice to it and i have also given a few squirts here and there.
    The motor has moly file fit rings 1/16 1/16 3/16 how long before they will seal.
    When i give the motor a boot full i can pull over pop the hood and theres oil on my valve cover out of the breather.

    ......when my engine was on the dyno it was splashing oil out of the breather caps and the engine builder said this was because my valve covers didn't have baffles...... Bill

    you need one pcv valve in one valve cover and the pcv valve in the other, with baffles in the covers.

    Ive never had to run 2 pc valves .
    It does have 1 and also a breather cap. They do have baffles.
    Its not fumey or any thing like that.

    you have it the way it should be. i dont know what i thought i was saying. should have been a breather cap in the other cover. you got it right. sorry
    ps if a motor is worn bad enough its gonna blow out some oil no matter what you do.

    I had a similar problem with my 355 SBC in my Abone. I bought the car already completed and didn't have specs on the engine. I replaced all filters, plugs, belts etc. I also replaced the PCV valve. That's when my problems started! Turned out I replaced it with the wrong valve!!! The original didn't have any id numbers on it so I thought if it looked the same.....well I was wrong. I had a friend that suggested the correct PCV valve and haven't had a problem since! Might be worth the try!

    I have a similar problem....I'm running old school holley finned valvecovers, the breather on the driversside sits right above the rocker....it has no baffle and when i get into it, same thing, oil out the breather. $5.00 part from holley, keeps the oil inside the cover....sure makes a nice pretty engine yucky in no time.

    Blowing oil out the breathers is a fact of life with low tension oil rings. PCV will help, but at full throttle you will have no crankcase vacuum and you'll still blow oil out the breather. Consider using a catch can if you don't want the oil all over your windshield. The blowby will get better as the engine breaks in. You need to get on that throttle a little bit to seat the rings.
