    Question 403 olds

     



    Hi my name is chris, i am 18 currently attending school in st.pete fl for auto tech , i have a 87 cuttlas "442" with a 307 i it now, i just picked up a 403 block and was going to build it up for racing this is going to be my first project and i heard that the 403 has a bad rep for having a weak main is this tru? wat kind of hp and torq is possible out of this engine? is it worth playing with or should i go strait to the big block?? any info and suggestions are greatly appreciated thanks alot chris

    The 403 in my openion is a very good engine it has a widowed main web and simeased cylinders but its a good engine if u put some pre 73 chevy 350 heads on it it gives it about 9.5-1 instead of 8.0-1 stock or sumthign like that but check out www.442.com then click olds FAQ and go to 403 and read that its some good info'
