    Mopar help???????

Ok I admit I'm not up on Mopar stuff,So here I go.I aquired 66 Dodge Polara 4 door auto. How the heck do I tell what the engine & Trans are? My intintions are to put this in a 40 Plymouth 2 door sedan I have.I have lots of chevy stuff but Mopar should go in Mopar the way I figure it. The engine has never been out of the car (1 owner.) Its been sitting out in the weather for 25 years.I hope its a 383 but I don't have any idea how to tell. Veh ID is DL4IG63228506.IF IT HELPS..THANKS

I found a small piece on the net stating that the 383 was the standard engine, with the 318 being a gas mileage option.

Here is a picture of the 383 in a '66 Polara. You always have to also consider than someone might have swapped engines at some time. The numbers stamped on the motor would be the only way to know for sure.

Is the distributor in the front of the engine (Big Block) or the rear (Small Block)?

Nice to see someone keeping it all in the Mopar family!

    Cheers, Mark

I'm trying to figure out what I have here,so I can figure out if I should proceed with the engine ans trans or not. Like steel crank HP Heads (or not) that sort of thing.. Thanks For the help..

    Another great site; www.moparstyle.net

The rear in that car should be a 8 3/4, very strong rear. Keep us posted and pictures of your progress.
