What can you tell me about a late 70's 400 Linc?
I am considering a late 70 something Lincoln 400 as a motor for my 1948-52 Ford pickup project. What can you tell me about these motors. They are the same block as the 351 Windsors correct?
Thanks,
CHAZ

The only 400 Ford I can think of is the 400 M, which was a sister of the 351 M engine. If that is it, they weren't bad engines (had one in a T bird) but were not designed to be performance engines, but rather to haul big cars around. Not much speed equipment, but I think normal stuff like intakes and cams are available.
For a street driven rod one would be fine, and they look somewhat 351 cleveland-ish.

Certainly not the best of the Ford engines, depends on what kind of performance level you are looking for with your pickup. As Don said, pretty much the standard performance stuff available for it, just not a huge selection to choose from like there is with a Windsor or a Big Block.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Most 400's are dogs. 351m's too. Get a Windsor for your project, much more power and burn half the gas. Clevelands look great, but parts are outrageously expensive, and they're "peaky", not the best for a daily driver.

a 351w would probably suit you best, its got great parts availability, and you have the options of anywhere from mild to wild
and if you just want more cubes... you can use a 427 stroker kitjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Also you can put those heads on a windsor block and have a clevor or poor mans boss motor!!!You will need the street boss intake for those heads on a winsor block.....with a 427 stroker kit!!!!!Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)
