    crate SBC 350 oil capacity?

what is the oil capacity with a standard filter on a SBC crate motor? Its a 260 hp base GM crate with what looks like the stock steel pan. I just changed the oil and added 5 quarts and a new filter, and the chrome dipstick reads about a quart low, maybe a bit above that... Is what is the stock capicity with a filter? I've heard 5 quarts, and I've also heard 5 and a half with a filter... let me know, i don't want to overfill it, but i don't want it under either.

Five quarts with filter on every SBC I've owned - except my LT-1 Vette, which says 4.5. Are you sure you have the right dipstick?

its a taiwan chrome job, not necessarily accurate, which was why i asked, because right now i know it has exactly 5 quarts including the oil in the filter, and i will mark the stick at this spot if thats all the more it should hold, even though itsd reading just a bit above the add mark.

sounds like the tube is not all the way down. if it is and you have 5 qts. in it take a file and mark the stick where the oil stops at. sure you don't have a 6 qt. pan?
