knock sensor question
I have done the search already on where to put a knock sensor....I understand that it should be a sensor for the particular engine configuration, V8 or V6, etc. I also understand that it is sensitive to the vibration and should be mounted solidly to the block, so as to transfer as much of the vibration signal strength as possible.
I saw a question about a possible mounting at the fuel pump block off plate and kinda got off on a tangent in my head. Could the sensor be put in place of one of the water jacket drains on the side of the block? Would the immersion in fluid dampen the signal? Any ideas? Just trying to understand these things a little better for future reference.

Hi,
Funny, I just posted basically the same question but exactly opposite. I don't know what kind of engine you are working with. I am working with late model small block Chevy engines. The knock sensors are located in what used to be the block drain plug holes in the lower side of the block on both sides. They were ment to be in the block engine coolant so as to better pick up valve knocking, or pinging sounds caused by spark knock. It is typically transmitted better through the engine coolant. I am trying to find out if the will work properly if mounted solid in the block. Looks as though we may have answered both questions here.
What kind of engine are you working on?
