How long has it been sitting? Reason I ask, you may have some other things to do before you dump some gas in it and try to fire it up.

Spray penatraiting fluid all over the valve train and tap "TAP" the top of the vavles to free any that are sticking in the guides,so you do not bend any of the pushrods when you try to crank it over.
EDIT...ooooops theres no overhead valves on a flathead
Thats what happens when you are born in 1970

Something that worked good for me on a 48 Dodge, take out the plugs and squirt some miracle oil in each cylinder and let it soak for 48 hours. I did that and the car had been sitting for 17 years, and it turned over (jumped with a 12 volt battey) right away.
When it finally fired up ran smooth as a Singer sewing maching.

i tried firing it today, and it sounds like my starter solenoid is messed up, but im not sure if the car is a 6v or 12v, i put a 12v battery, do you think i can burn something if i keep trying with this battery.?

yeah, it's 6v unless someone converted it. could blow stuff up, like radio, lights, coil ect... if you run 12v thru it, and it's not converted

well i put a 12v battery and nothing blew up and i turned all the lights and nothing happened, and i had them on for about 5-10 mins, so do you think it might been changed to a 12v??

were they bright? if so, it's been converted. if it's got an alternator or a generator marked 12v, well, you can guess it's 12v. 6v bulbs would have blown up with 12v going to them, 12v lights would live ( of course ) but would be dim with 6v going to them.

yeah, all the 12v gen's I'v seen say 12v on the tag, and Dodge did use 12v gens b4 alternators, so maby it was an old swap, as the generators are probably bolt in swaps
