We have used the Speed Pro Moly ring sets that sell for about $40 in all the SBC in the 300 to 500 hp area.
I don't even look at the plasma moly rings until they say 250 shot of N20 or blower with 10 lbs. of boost or if they say 13.5 to 1 or more.

Speed Pro or Total Seal. Now PBM does have very good set of High Performance rings for little less.

I have used them in some drag cars with a 200 shot of N20 with no problems after 125 + pass's.

Total Seals.... always ran Total Seals, A few years ago I let my machinist talk me into some other brands in my Fontana midget motor because he said Total seals wear the bores. Well midget engines are laid over 45 degrees and have a drain hose from the valve cover back to the oil pan, needless to say his favorite brand of rings would not seat and had so much blow by that it looked like an oil well out of the remote breather tank. After several attempts to seat em I gave up,pulled the engine out and put my beloved Total seals in and had instant seal.

I just bought a set of federal mogul 'sealed power' E-245 K60 for my 292,(slowly-but-slowly ) I'm getting all the parts together.
But I'll do good to see 300 hp with this build,so they may be ok for a mild smallblock,CR will be around 9:1 and it's an occasional street vehicle.
If your running high CR and/or high HP then get the best.
As a matter of fact my machine shop won't hone for 'cast' rings because of all the junk on the market. He said 'good moly rings'.
But,,,the rings(no matter the cost) will work in the more important area than rings,,,,thats the bore.If it ain't straight/round/proper honed then the rings can't work right, but that wouldn't justify using cheap rings, just my 2 cents worth."On a r-e-e-e-e-al,,,,qu-i-i-i-i-i-et night,,,,,,,,(whisper),,,,,,,, you can hear a Ford rust!!!"

I like the Total Seal...Heard all the stories about cylinder wear, but haven't had the problem yet.... Also though, the last stroker I put together came with Mahle pistons and rings...No problems with them either...Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
