    Question Remove Oil Pan

I 'VE GOT A 69 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD W/ A 472 ENGINE WITH A OIL PAN LEAK. THE PAN HAS A MIDDLE SUMP OR PICK UP,SO THE FRONT OF THE PAN IS OVER HANGING THE CROSS MEMBER AND THE REAR OF THE PAN IS OVER HANGING THE STEERING BAR. I REMOVED THE EXHAST THE COVER FOR TORQUE CONVERTER AND THE STARTER SO I COULD GET TO THE BOLTS ON THE SIDE OF THE OIL PAN.I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO WIGGLE IT AROUND TO GET THE PAN OUT, BUT NO SUCH LUCK! IF I PULLED THE MOTER MOUNT BOLTS AND LIFTED THE ENGINE DO YOU THINK I WOULD HAVE ROOM TO PULL THE PAN ALL THE WAY OUT WITH OUT DISCONNECTING THE TRANNY. I'VE ALSO REMOVED THE TIMMING CHAIN COVER / WATER PUMP TO REPLACE GASGETS AND FRONT ENGINE SEAL. IT WAS AGOOD THING I DID BECAUSE THE BOLTS WERE RUSTED SO BAD THAT THE COVER AND WATER PUMP WOULD'NT SEPERATE.COULD'NT FIND ANY ONE WHO SOLD A NEW TIMMIG COVER SO I BROKE THE BOLTS OFF THE WATER PUMP AND DRILLED THE TIMMING COVER AND THEN WELDED NUTS TO THE BACK SIDE OF THE TIMMING COVER SINCE I HAD TO DRILL THE THREDS OUT OF THE COVER IT'S SELF AND I'M HAVING A BLAST NOW! ANY IDEA WHAT IS THE BEST/EASYEST WAY TO GET THE PAN OUT WITH REMOVING THE ENGINE SO I CAN GIVE IT A GOOD CLEANING AND SOME NEW PAINT. THANKS:

Personally, I prefer JB weld-2 part epoxy. Or duct tape. Duct tape is good.

hey i'm working with one finger here so i'll change it to all small letters, i smashed the rest of them in the oil pan. and JB weld that was good, because that is exactly what i used to put the nuts on the back of the timming cover!so i allready have some for the frame.

I have a 69 Caddy with the same engine. I bought it from one of my brothers. Before I got it he had new rings and bearings installed. The mechanic did it without removing the engine. So there must be a way to remove the pan without pulling the engine out. I think if you unbolt the mounts and lift the engine it should come apart.

Just to let you know I asked how to remove the oil pan from a 472 engine in a 1969 Cadillac. I got a couple goofy answers and one good one but, thats alright it was all in good fun. Now, I'll tell you how I did it with out removing the engine. Pulled the started, the exhaust, the converter cover, the steering bar that ran behind the pan, pulled the motor mount bolts on the drivers side, jacked up the engine about a 1/2 an inch and the pan slid right out! Thanks for the help and the fun. -KURT
