Hey, at least Scooter is out there racing something and not just bench racing like a lot of folks..... Parts break, old parts on high winding engines break more often then new parts on low revving engines.... Keep on racing Scooter! If I had any Chebbie parts I'd throw them all in a box and send em to ya!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Scooter, with all the 283 parts you and I got laying around we oughta break them on purpose at least once a year anyway. The fun part is building them,,,can't hardly stand to drive the same hotrod for longer than a year knowing I have a different combo in the basement.
Anyway,,,,I'm sooooo curious to see what rpm that ebay crank will take before,,,,,snap, crackle, pop,,,,,,"On a r-e-e-e-e-al,,,,qu-i-i-i-i-i-et night,,,,,,,,(whisper),,,,,,,, you can hear a Ford rust!!!"

Well I still don't have my 350 running but my calibration is a memory of my Dad's '68 Chevelle with a 350. The accelerator cable must have had a very weak spring because that thing was downright scary in stock form because just a light foot on it would give wheel spin and wild acceleration. Relative to my older 59A/B or even other 283s that 350 was enough for me. I have tried to build my 350 as just slightly hotter than stock with the 300 HP cam, 1.6 ratio rockers and headers with the idea that I if I can get the response of the old Chevelle with the low gear in a 700R4 and a Model A body it ought to be enough for a man my age and the 4th OD gear should give me reasonable mileage with a 3.55 rear. To put it into perspective with my memory bank a stock 283 was a bit better than the 59A/B all around but that '68 350 was over the top by leaps and bounds compared to the 283. I looked enviously at the 383 but decided maybe a 350 has enough torque for my 8" rear while maybe the rear wouldn't last long with the 383. Clearances? What about these short block 383s you can buy? Do they use a reduced diameter cam or just take the chance the rod bolts can be ground down? At my age I will be glad to get the 350 to run, but you know they are cheap NOW, but I'll bet in 10 years they will be "classics"!
Denny have I missed a 283/350 feud in the last year?

ebay crank ?????? same crank thats been in this motor for the last 5 years, it was magged and came back with a good bill of health so you can just wait for your snap crackle pop. i guess you take what u ahve to the limit and fix what breaks not fix whats not broken! its a steel crank what more can u ask for. rods got new arp rod bolts, and were magged also.Last edited by gassersrule_196; 09-25-2007 at 06:45 PM.

FAYLUR since you have so many 283 parts how about sharing just one little block that can be bored to 0.40 and i will swap you one that can be bored to .100 over you can,t pass a deal like that cause you said you wanted to see how far it would go before snap and pop just for the record there was a guy here that was boring them that much but i just need one for my 65 chevy truck i have the parts to build one .40 but the block i have the machine shop messed up and it would have to go .60 or .80 think about a swap and then rev till it goes

Oldtrucker,,,the block I don't have but they are on ebay,,,but having said that,I personally wouldn't buy a block from ebay unless it's a machine shop selling it,,,,buying one from an individual would be risky in my opinion.
And the machine shops here in Columbubbus won't bore one(283) past .060" unless they have the money first,if they get a 'breakthru',,,well bless the lowered and thank you for the offering! Got a good set of silvolite(used, but good)pistons at .060" for the 283 if you'd be interested,PM me.
AND HEY SCOOTER,stop it! Told you before, you got fans on here!Keep on keeping on with that motor. And better get thicker skin if your gona play in the redneck bars!"On a r-e-e-e-e-al,,,,qu-i-i-i-i-i-et night,,,,,,,,(whisper),,,,,,,, you can hear a Ford rust!!!"
Thank you Roger. .
