This used to confuse me but somebody on this Forum explained that GM changed the way of measuring HP in 1970 or there abouts so that 325 HP is probably a lot lower but it should be higher than the 195 HP 283. Still with a two-barrel carb it probably was from a sedan rather than a performance setup. Still there is a lot to be said for a working engine and a 327 should offer more performance than the 283; if the price is low and it runs it should be a good deal and can be rebuilt later as you say.

FAYLUR if you read this pm me and we might can get together on the pistons i had a 350 in the truck and it broke (busted piston, cut hole between two cylinders, and messed up the heads) trying to decide if i want to go back with 283 or try another 350 also in process of getting 37 plymouth and trying to shuffel everything around its fun to be broke and happyI just wonder what happened to GOVERNMENT of the people by the people for the people?

Scooter stay with it. I have saw 283s in the early 1970s turning 8 to 10 grand and not come apart. They weren,t mine i just didn,t have the nerve to push one that far. I have pushed one 6500 to 7500 with no problem but i still have a steel safety bellhousing or scatter shield as we called them back then that a clutch came apart in and it still totes the scars. Hey if you want to try one .100over i might sell you this block also some early 283 and 327 blocks were the same i don,t remember the #s but with a little help from some of the older racers maybe they might rembemberI just wonder what happened to GOVERNMENT of the people by the people for the people?

Scooter we used to use the venola(if i spelt it right) and the TRW pistons back then I could try to contact Woodro Josey(the guy that was building the 100 overbore 283s) and see where he was getting his pistons from if you want me toI just wonder what happened to GOVERNMENT of the people by the people for the people?

Cape Cod Bob,you've not replied to us thread hi-jackers but just this past Sat.10/13 a set of .125" over 283 or 302 pistons sold on ebay for $113,never used. They were cast of course at that bid but the parts are available if you decide to go that route. And you also have to have a 283 block that will take that bore (many won't ) or find a 350 that will get by with just a hone,,,,then use childs-alberts sj in lj block spacers or clevites thick bearings but they only allow cranks that are no more than .010" under mains.
Ah forget it,,,put one of those 3.75" sj stroker cranks in it!
(if its one of those 283 and/or 327 blocks with clearance)"On a r-e-e-e-e-al,,,,qu-i-i-i-i-i-et night,,,,,,,,(whisper),,,,,,,, you can hear a Ford rust!!!"
