Realistik ,its worth about 500 to 1500 depending on the buyer,if its a standard rebuild,if its full of high end racing parts and aluminum heads maybe 4000,but its used ,with no warranty and unless the builder is a well known one .........I bought a used 305 with less than 3000 miles for 75 dollars.
A 460 is more desirable than a 305 ,what casting numbers are on the block and what heads does it have...?
The guy down the street has a 90 extended cab 8 foot bed f-250 with a fuel injected 460 ,low miles, thats been for sale at 2500 for a long time ,truck looks new too ,no rust or clear coat peel at all, also has a fiberglass campershell. Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

if it has been a 460 all its life and in the f-250, its probably not a desirerable piece. if it were a SCJ or a CJ it might be another story. ive got a SCJ and a prepped ready to go block only went for 4700 bucks on ebay last month. but it was a saught after collectors piece. you might get 2 grand for the whole drive line if you can prove its rebuild time. , if it is stock that is. aftermarket parts drive the cost up somewhat!

If it's what came stock in '84, IMO you'd be lucky to get more then $1,000.00 for it. I have an '85 EFI engine in the shop I paid $150.00 for in running condition.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Your buddy is being overly optimistic quoting you those prices. I've got a VERY built full roller 460 that I would be lucky to get $ 2000 for if I sold it, and it is a zero mile engine with lots of Cobra Jet and aftermarket stuff on it.
I honestly think if you got $ 1000 you would be doing well.

And if you haven't sold in these past 2 months well, time for a new game plan. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

Got a 460 in my truck that I'm building up. Depending on whos looking to buy, with only 10,000 miles on a presmog desirable 1971, you might do very well indeed!. If you were here in CA. I'd give you 1000 bucks no questions asked, because to rebuild the heads and replace the pistons, bearing, balance and blue printing I'm looking at 3000, for the long block alone. The good thing about those engines is they tend to go the distance and are capable of some serious hp, the bad thing is it cost a fortune to build one up just look on line for any crate engine of that year. Good luck to you, I'd keep the engine and drop it in a hot rod!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

After two months, I'd say he sold it already or has made a decision on what to do with it.What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?
