Sounds to me like your suffering from a severe detonation problem. try reducing your timing a couple degrees or increasing your fuel octane.

or decreasing the squish or lowering the compression ratio or going with a cam that will close the intake valve later or rig up some water injection.....

If it's the engine making the noise, all of the above could be the problem, or it could be running lean under load. It could be something like the exhaust hitting the body under torque, too.
