Chris Congratulations on the new crew member/future driver! In my limited experience with such things is something actually makes it into a cylinder and stays, you are likely to have a knocking sound. I had the end of a throttle linkage cotter pin break off and fall down an intake port when I was taking the manifold off. Motor started knocking and had me scared. Finally figured out which bank it was on and pulled the head and there it was. Fortunately no damage but a PITA. Hope yours works out as well. You might slap some mufflers on it to see if you can hear anything, or put a stethoscope on it.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Man, I'd be pulling my hair out if the air was 7700 ft!!!!!!!! What's the humidity like up there this time of year? Dry if I remember right????
PS--The guys qualified this afternoon for Super Gas...Running 16 cars on Sunday (Div. points) and 32 cars on Monday ($$$$, no points) Roger qualified #3 and Rodney qualified #7....
Do good way up there at altitude!!! We've got to figure out some way to get together with the cars some time.... Texas in the Spring is a blast, but Topeka is closer!!!! Maybe next summer?????
Have a good runoff---A good weekend should dang near lock you up on points, right?????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks, Pat... sure missed the little guy and his mother this weekend. Not hearing anything unusual... car has mufflers (if you can call flowmaster 40's mufflers )... all I hear is the usual sewing machine sound of the valve train.
Dave, humidity is typically pretty low but saturday was down to 29%... and around 40% most of sunday.
This weekend was the finale' for the Quaker State E.T. Series. I run in two classes "Run Tuff" (no electronics no trans brake) and Pro ET (no electronics trans brake allowed). By electronics I mean delay boxes and throttle stops. The other class I run in Sunoco "King Street" (street legal, current plates, insurance, headlights, mufflers, etc) I already have the championship sewed up with the last race on 9/19.
Did okay this weekend but not great. Lost in 3rd round in both classes. Both of which I beat myself mentally getting psyched out by who I was racing. Went red in one (-.010) and slept for the other (.106).
My goals for this weekend were to make the podium (6th place or better) in Run Tuff and make the top 32 in Pro ET to qualify for the invitational Wally race 9/27.
I didn't improve from my 10th place standings in R/T but made exactly 32nd place for Pro ET When I left last night I didn't think I made it with only 2 round wins (I started at 43rd place) but apparently all the right people lost. So I will have two shots at the Wally here in a few weeks.
Anyway, I'm just happy we made it through the weekend without breaking... will see about inspecting the cylinders this week.
Will need to take care of some safety tech things before running around sea level. Transmission shield required at 10.99 and this car should run 10.90's maybe even 10.8x with the right tune....
Can your big block Ford do that on pump gas under 440ci in a 3300# car?
-Chris
P.S. Congrats to your guys on qualifying so high!Last edited by skids72; 09-06-2009 at 05:42 PM.

10.8's at 3300 pounds??? Nope, we don't run anything under 460 cubes. Might go back to a Windsor some day, but the big blocks make so dang much torque...... The T-Bird is heavy, 3150 or so but the Comet comes in at 2600....
Sounds like you have some good classes out there anyway!!!! Bradenton, Fl. runs a great big non-electronics bash in late January, 10K to win!!!! We run a throttle stop on the Comet, it'll go 9.70s without it on so we just about have to to keep it at 9.90.... On some of the big $$$$$ bracket deals Rodney shuts it off and runs with the bracket cars. As for pump gas, we run E-90 in both cars, the higher compression is just cheap horsepower IMO..... Setting the 'maro up for E-85, same rationale---cheap fuel, 105 octane, and lotsa compression!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

yeah, more and more folks out here runnin' E-85 too... even if you're burning half again more fuel it's way cheaper than standard 110 or unleaded 100. A bunch of guys around here travel out to Great Bend, KS for a high dollar bracket race, I think it's coming up soon...I think $70 to enter and $3k to win with decent payouts through quarters and I think money for 8th too. Invited me along but like I said I won't be doing any traveling this year, maybe next year. If I could find a couple more tenths could run in super street but then you're looking at delay boxes and throttle stops.... big bridge to cross and would lock me out of the other classes I like to run. Index is 11.50 up here (10.50 SG, 9.50 SC)... a few years ago I think they were using NHRA corrected index which was 11.53 for Bandimere but I think they changed to 11.50 for a nice round numberPaint don't make it no faster

Yeah, I went out there a few years back when I was still running the Maverick, never could get out of the .60's, so needless to say it was a long tow to go out in the first round!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
