350 SBC Vs. LS2 with 6L80 auto 6 speed
I am fixing to build a 32 3 window as a daily driver so I am interested in 400 HP that will still give me good gas mileage. I drive 100 miles per day. I will use a closed hood to hide it. Does anyone have experience using LS series engine? Is it worth the trouble to get the mileage?“Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Anyone mess with a LS1 conversion?“Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it”--Lou Holtz.

I have an LS1 in my 53 Studebaker and love it. Runs like a scalded dog and gets 26-27 mpg on the highway with the cruise control on. There have been several neat projects highlighted here. Look for Ken Thurms Roadster with an LS7. Also for a lot of great info on swapping these motors into just about anything go here

I have an LT1 (I know, not exactly the same but still a non gen 1 fuel injected engine) going in my '35 and there have been a few small things to overcome, but nothing terrible. The LT1 has a better sounding exhaust note than an LSX, the engine doesn't look like plastic and you don't have to deal with things like coil pack relocation and stuff like that. My 06 GTO also has an LS2 and it makes for a great daily driver. By now the LS engines have been out going on 15 years and the aftermarket support for swaps makes things quite a bit less painful. A new engine harness for my LT1 would have cost $750, but I had my stock harness cleaned up by LT1 wiring (they do all late model GM stuff) for half that. It will likely cost more to build, but the end result will be will worth it imo especially since you say you are building a daily driver.
I say go for it!'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO
