    sbc build for daily driver

I have a low compression 350 truck block with old style heads, 84 c-10 short bed, 350 trans. Its a goodwrench crate engine from the early 90's. I have a rebuild coming up for this engine but dont want to spend tons of money modifying it. I have done the modifying and high horse power engines and love it but just want a dependable engine mill that will be pretty much maintenance free. What I want to build is a efficient, low maintenance, with torque and fuel mileage being priority. I guess I would only really need to modify the cam and valve train to get it running efficiently. I am going to keep the stock exhaust manifolds, stock exhaust pipes(y pipe into a 3" single tube) , stock intake. Any ideas on cam companies that offer quality products that will last 250,000 miles on the street? Tires are 31.5" tall tires and a 700r4 trans is in the future also. Engine is carbed with a quadrajet and have a air fuel ratio gauge on it now to fine tune the carb. Thanks

If you can find out what the actual static compression ratio is and give me the casting numbers on the heads, I can try some different combos on the DynoSim for you. One thing I have definitely found though, is that in order to free up some hp and make the motor more efficient, a good high-rise, dual-plane intake manifold such as a RPM or Stealth and a set of 1 5/8" diameter, long-tube, tuned headers should be in the plan.

Thanks I will do that. Thinking about it a little more I guess what I am looking for is a "improved stock" cam. Looking for low towing power (maybe 5 times a year) for fairly light/medium loads and longevity . The lower I keep the RPM's should help make it fuel efficient and lower the wear rate. If I go too far with adding more power bearings will deteriorate at a faster rate over a few years compared to the underpowered stock cam? I wonder if the Chevrolet dealership sells stock cam and valvetrain kits?
