engine builders with knowledge of super chargers

I'm and old school geezer who was brought up that using a blower on a engine you needed less compression of no more than 8 or maybe 8.5. If any higher, you run the risk of detenation from running to lean. Now I see newer engines running blowers with higher compression of 9 or even higher. What is the difference? Are the newer engines better equipped with better computers to regulate the timing and or the compression in newer engines. I know if I put a bower on my 82 SBC that I would have to drop the compression from its 9.3 to no more than 8 for running 5 psi of boost.
Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

i built some blower engines many at 9to1 and some at 10to1. boost comes in to play to how good of fuel you have . how good your at tuning .how well the engine is built or in what shape if used. alot of boost can make alot of intake heat if so it will not make more power if a lower grade fuel use it will go off before you can take advtantage of the blower boost and blow the engine up.better fuel more boost but it can get to a point were better parts should be used in the engine. for the street i like not to drive the blower to hard= heat . build more CR in the engine .it takes amount of power to drive the blower. big blowers more power to drive them. for the street any time you go from inchs of vac to boost psi you will feel it the number may not need to be very big
