Not sure about the red/white/blue, but there was a little 262 V8for the Monza's in '75/'76. From Wikipedia:262 The 1975–1976 262 was a 262 cu in (4.3 L) 90° pushrod V8 with an iron block and heads. Bore and stroke were 3.67 in (93 mm) by 3.10 in (78.7 mm). Power output for 1975 was 110 hp (82 kW) and 195 lb·ft (264 N·m) at 3600 rpm. The 262 was replaced by the 305 for the 1977 model year.
This was Chevrolet's second 4.3 L-displacement powerplant; three other Chevrolet engines displaced 4.3 L: the Vortec 4300 (a V6 based on the Chevrolet 350, with two cylinders removed), the original 265 V8 in 1955, and a derivative of the GenerationII LT engines known as the L99 (using the 305's 3.736-inch bore, 5.94-inch connecting rods, and a 3-inch crankshaft stroke).
This engine was used in the following cars:
1975–1976 Chevrolet Monza
1975 Chevrolet Nova
Early 1977 Pontiac VenturaRoger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

I saw a little Sunbeam Convertible at a Cruise in Crockett, Texas a couple of years ago that the owner had "shoe horned" one of those 262 SBC's under the hood. Altho it was crowded it sure looked awesome. Don't remember it being red, white and blue, however????????.

GM had no real way to selectively paint the basic engine.....air cleaner is
a different story. Look at the gaskets.....to see if the engine has been apart.
For the engines with aluminum valve covers, I think they layed a mask (perhaps just a steel cover) on the engine during painting. For aluminum intakes, they had a cardboard valley cover to mask
Sounds like a dealer did an engine for the bicentennial....'76. They did some montes or monzas with a really ugly red/white/blue scheme back then.....looked like an Arkansas Clap Doctor's car.

that was a 267 SB Chevy in that 1979 Monte Carlo . I had a 1979 also with that same Engine . I owned two 1975 Chevy Monza's with 262 SB Chevy's in them . The one car was a 4-Speed . That 4-Speed 262 Monza got a Comp cams 268H High Rise and 600 D/P a Few other mods and Ran Low 14's on 13" Street Tires but MPH-ed Like a 13 Sec car . It would leave Long marks when power shifting 1-2 and 2-3 and was very easy on fuel . Great car to have now a Days . The 262's that I have had responded better to mods then that 267 in My 1979 Monte Carlo did .Wisdom is acquired by experience, not just by age
