I should just stick to my small block.

bolt on some better heads and a performance torque conveter.

I have lots of years to work up to a monster motor.

I just want to be fast enough to out accelerate the local competion.
    had a rebuilt 355SB chevy
    it lasted 42,000km
    Got another rebuilt 355SB
    it lasted 62km.
I still have not had a powerful engine.

Here is my deal. About 10 to 12 mpg is about right My 72 GMC jimmy, 4x4, 305, big cam (too big) holley 600, about 9 mpg. my 78 chevy blazer 454, 4x4 big cam (again, too big) with a holley 750 double pumper about 8 mpg, with a carter 650 came as an edelbrock about 11.5 mpg. see, so not always bigger is better on a daily driver.just watch for what type of carburator you are going to use. street carter or edelbrock, for hot driving (racing, sand dunes etc. holley will make a big difference on performance and reaction. hope that helps....

a big block may be even better with the right carburator (a carter or an edelbrock ) keep a small cfm carb if daily driver, now if Hot driving (racing, sand drag or asphalt ) use a holley for better performance and reaction. also on a millage search keep your engine at or below 2000 rpm at all times. Hope this helps.
