    i drilled and tap the block. if you do not you would need a thrust washer to take up the space of the cam retainer plate if using a step nose cam and if so then you need to rework a thust button as the O.D of the button will be to big to fit in the front of the cam gear for the set nose cam and the 1/2 heads on the 5/16 bolts will hit so you will need to go to button head allen screws for if to work . so at this point drilling the two 1/4 nc bolt holes for the cam plate starts looking good. here is the parts i made to use a step nose can in a block with no boss to drill for retaining plate
