TBI 350 roller set up?
I have a TBI 1 pc seal 2 bolt main 350. it has three bosses which i drilled and tapped. i have the spider, dog bones, roller lifters, cam retainer, and all bolts to go with it. parts came from a vortec motor. my issue here is should i drill and tapp for the cam retainer or use a cam button? motor came from a 1994 4x4 c1500 truck and is going into my 1982 c10 and will be converted to carb.

i drilled and tap the block. if you do not you would need a thrust washer to take up the space of the cam retainer plate if using a step nose cam and if so then you need to rework a thust button as the O.D of the button will be to big to fit in the front of the cam gear for the set nose cam and the 1/2 heads on the 5/16 bolts will hit so you will need to go to button head allen screws for if to work . so at this point drilling the two 1/4 nc bolt holes for the cam plate starts looking good. here is the parts i made to use a step nose can in a block with no boss to drill for retaining plateLast edited by pat mccarthy; 12-09-2012 at 10:31 PM.

Nice. I was looking to get 450 fwhp any advice as far as cam and head selection? I am going with 383 on bottom end. Well I think I have cam picked out. Just need reasonably priced set of good heads. Cam I am looking at is comp cam part number 08-432-8. 08-432-8 - XTREME Energy here is a link to view specs. Kinda lost as far as bang for the buck goes as far as supporting heads.

James, you can't just reach out in thin air and pick a cam that you think will work with your combination because you don't know what your combination is. The intake valve closing point ground into the lobes of the cam must be coordinated with the static compression ratio of the motor to reach a dynamic compression ratio that will work with the fuel you plan to use. And why on God's Green Earth does it have to be an extreme energy grind. That's the most difficult grind to make work without roaching the lifters and you damned well don't need the additional 10 hp of that cam over a regular grind. If you need another 10 hp, raise the static compression ratio and use a little hotter cam.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.
