Edelbrock has a very good tune up and calibration chart on their site, and also in the book that comes with the carbs when purchased new. Get the calibration kit for the carb, then go through the calibration procedure and you'll end up with a very smooth carb with good performance, too!

Dave's advice is solid. Sounds like you've got an accelerator pump adjustment to do, but going through the whole process like Edelbrock says is the way to go.

As they said but check and see that the control rod on the accelerator pump is in the center hole..
