Been a year since adding the modified catch can and all is working well. After talking to a radiator guy that specializes on the older hot rods like mine I understand why it works and learned that I’m not the first to do this.

The condition I experienced is caused by the down flow radiator and the cap location at the top of the radiator near the upper hose inlet. The top hose is the pressure hose and with some water pumps the pressure coming out of the motor can over come the pressure cap at higher speeds. When this happens the radiator cap can expel more fluid than the recovery system is designed to handle. The solution is to add additional storage as I’ve done, albeit (as he says) my design is a little clever at hiding it.
