These old IDI or in-direct injected diesels are real work horses! The 7.3 ones were in late 87-early 94 ford and international trucks. In 92.5 ford added a turbo to the IDI. These engines also had ceramic pistons and were prone to failure. In 94.5 up Navistar introduced the Powerstroke which is direct injected and has a turbo.
Hypermax, ATS, and Banks used to make turbo kits for these trucks. I think Banks is the only one still offering the kits. A good place to buy one is a used one off ebay, craigslist or where ever. Rebuild the turbo if needed and put it on. I wouldn't use a turbo from a powerstroke. It won't be an easy install and you don't want to put more than 7-8psi through these engines or you will knock out the wrist pins. Been there done that.Ryan
